He was preceded in death by his parents, Sid and Bertha Mae Black Stidham; his wife, Carnelia Abbott Stidham; 3 brothers, Laudie, Kent, and Hollis Stidham; and 1 sister, Ava Dean Ray.

Mrs. Claudia Cook Rye, age 90, of Forest Manor Nursing Home in Northport, Alabama, formerly of Hamilton, Alabama, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2008 at the Forest Manor Nursing Home in Northport.

Funeral services, 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at the Hamilton Funeral Home with Bro. Edward Puckett and Bro. Lyndon Vann officiating. Burial in the Cooper Cemetery (Map) on County Road 22, off Hwy. 17 South in Marion County, Alabama.

Claudia Cook Rye was born March 10, 1918 in Lamar County, Alabama, the oldest daughter of Marvin S. and Lomie Clifton Cook. Claudia grew up in south Marion County, Alabama, near Round Top Church (Mt. Joy Baptist Church, today). She attended Harris and Byrd Community Schools. In 1940, Claudia married Raymond Rye. Later in 1956, Claudia went to work as a seamstress at Detroit Slacks in Detroit, Alabama until she retired after 26 years in 1983.

Claudia was preceded in death by her infant sister, Ellen Rosana Cook and by her parents, Marvin and Lomie Cook. Her husband, Raymond Rye died in 1987, and her brother, Ethridge Cook, died in 2003.

Claudia is survived by her daughter, Joyce Rye Kasberg, her son-in-law, John D. Kasberg, and four brothers: Cecil (Agile) Cook and J.C. (Ethel) Cook of Adrian, Michigan; John W. Cook of Fultondale, Alabama; Leon (Leola) Cook of Foley, Alabama; sister, Lorene Cook Carter, of Statesboro, Georgia; sister-in-law, Ruby Gann Cook, of Fultondale, Alabama; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mr. Tumer Colburn, age 93 of Hamilton, Alabama, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2008 at Marion Regional Nursing Home in Hamilton, Alabama.

Mr. Colburn was born September 18, 1915 in Marion County, Alabama, to the late Melvin and Molly Gann Colburn. He was retired from the Marion County School System where he served as a Bus Driver and Janitor. He was married to Eudora Cole Rea Colburn.

He is survived by his wife, Eudora Rea Colburn; sons, Abran Ray (Ethel) Colburn, and R. C. Colburn; step-daughter, Kathy (Randy) Pickard; step-sons, Jerry Rea, Arthur (Betty) Rea, and Jimmy (Renee) Rea; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews; and 1 sister, Julia Gann.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Molly Colburn; and a step-son, James Rea.

Mr. George Thomas "Tom" Pitts, age 89 of Hamilton, Alabama, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2008 at the North MS Nursing Home in Hamilton, Alabama.

Mr. Tom was born December 27, 1918 in Pontotoc County, Mississippi to the late George W. and Eula Davis Pitts. He was a Building Contractor and retired from U.S. Steel. He was a member of Kemp Baptist Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Eula Pitts; 1 daughter, Sandy Cox; 2 sons, Ken (Barb) Pitts, and Troy Pitts; 3 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Erma King; 1 brother, Myran Pitts; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Eula Pitts; 1 son, Roy Dee Pitts; 5 brothers, Edward, Robert, John, James, and Smythe Pitts; 2 sisters, Syble Bachum, and Myrtis Ridings.

Mr. Tom was a kind and Christian man and he will be missed.

She is survived by her husband, Richard McKinney; 1 sister, Cola Nix; 3 brothers, Pride (Jane) Gann, Lowell (Willene) Gann, and Olen (Jean) Gann, all of Hamilton, Alabama; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Ann Froelich Myrick; 1 son, John Allen (Peggy) Myrick; 2 step-daughters, Marilan (Freddie) Haney, and Rita Bell Rooker; 3 grandsons, Bobby Allen (Julie) Myrick, James David (Gabby) Myrick, and Jerry Dewayne (Misty) Myrick; 2 step-granddaughters, Pamela Sue Haney, and Geananna Haney; and 12 great-grandchildren; and special friends, Trent and Melisa McCarley and children.

He is survived by his son, Jeff Strickland; 2 sisters, Betty Cantrell and Ann Johnson; 1 brother, Johnny Strickland; and his stepmother, Eva Strickland.

Eula Inez Harper Tice, age 89, of Hamilton, Alabama, was called home to be with the Lord and Savior Tuesday, December 2, 2008.

Visitation, Thursday, December 4, 2008, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the Praise Assembly of God Church in Hamilton, Alabama.

Funeral service, Friday, December 5, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Praise Assembly of God Church with burial in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery (Map). Bro. Preston Headrick officiating.

Mrs. Tice was a devoted wife, loving mother, precious mamaw and adored great-mamaw. She was a devout Christian, living her life daily for the Lord. She was a founding member of the First Assembly of God Church in Hamilton. She was employed for several years at Tollgate Factory.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaston Tice, and a sister, Quilla Terrell.

Those left to cherish her memories are daughter, Sharon Clark (Otis), Muscle Shoals, AL; son, Michael Tice (late Sandy Tice), Hamilton, AL.; and daughter, Sandra Webster Seals of Winfield, AL. Two sisters, Robbie Emerson (Leo), Hamilton, AL., and Freddie Lolley (Junior), of Hackleburg, AL. She had 7 grandchildren, David Borden (Blair), Florence, AL., Johathan Borden (Tracee), Moultrie, GA., Tonya Peoples (Scotty), Florence, AL., Amanda Thomas (Colton), Muscle Shoals, AL., Chad Tice (Sarah), Greenfield, IN., Stacey Cummings (Tommy), Muscle shoals, AL., and Bradley Tice Webster, Winfield, AL. 12 great-grandchildren, Sebastian and Jesse Borden, Zoe and Jessi Borden, Abram and Luke Peoples, Tyce, Emma Ella and Mia Thomas, Valyn Tice and Jackson Cummings.

Mrs. Irene Jeffreys was born February 1, 1920 in Lamar County, Alabama, to the late Robert and Callie Belk Lockhart. She was retired from Toll Gate Garment Company. She was married to the late Raymond Jeffreys.

She is survived by 1 son, Wayne (Sue) Jeffreys; 2 grandchildren, Denise Tubbs, and Jeanne Busby; and 5 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Raymond Jeffreys.

Mrs. Stidham was born March 29, 1920 at the home of her parents, Will and Luria Pharr of the Single Springs Community near Vina, Alabama and close to Belmont, Mississippi. She was a wife, mother, homemaker and retired after twenty-nine years as an employee of Munsingwear in Hamilton, Alabama.

She has three children, Eugene, Shirley and David; eight grandchildren, Starr Lockwood, Chip Stidham, Dace Stidham, Sonya Justice, Joy Ashford, Nicole Bailey, Stephanie Twylffort, and Tony Comer; thirteen great grandchildren, Seth Lockwood, Megan Hayes, Dan Lockwood, Sarah, Hanna, Caleb Twylffort, Chase Comer, Ashley, Aaron, Addison Justice, Brittney and Drew Ashford, Kayli Stidham; and one great-great grandchild, Rylan Hayes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William B. and Luria Moss Pharr; husband, Travis Stidham in 2001; and her son, David in 2002.

He loved Blue Grass Music, playing the guitar, fishing, photography and woodworking. He retired from Continental Conveyor and was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church.

He retired from the Eye Foundation as a book keeper and worked at Black's Hardware Store in Guin, Alabama.

Buren Ballard, 88, of Bay, Arkansas, died Monday afternoon, December 29, 2008, at his home. He was born December 11, 1920, in Hodges, Alabama but had lived most of his life in Bay, AR. He was a member of the Bay First Baptist Church where he served as deacon. At one time he was the chair of the deacons. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and loved farming; loved the smell of the dirt. Mr. Ballard was a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Charles & Linda Ballard Glass, Jonesboro, AR., Sherry Ballard Liggett, Bay, AR.; a sister, Mary Lou Ballard Williams and her husband Johnny, San Angelo, Texas; grandchildren, Melissa Rebstock, David Glass, Amber Stone, April Liggett; great grandchildren, Jared Stover, Skye Stover, Caitlyn Glass, and Gibson Glass.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Ballard and his parents, Ben Harris & Melissa Nichols Ballard.

She was born in Mindota, Missouri in Putnam County to Loyd and Marrie Morris Shadden. She loved her children, grandchildren and family. Margel loved antiques, motorcycle riding, four wheelers, and was a gun marksman. She was also manager of the Marion County Lake for Many Years along with her husband James E. Guyton, and both were of the Baptist Faith.

Survived by her Husband: James E. Guyton of Hamilton, AL, Four Sons: Michael Guyton of Moline, IL, Terry Guyton and Rick Guyton both of Huntsville, AL and Perry Guyton of Bessemer, AL, Four Sisters: Barbara Veach , Deloris Frizzle, Betty McClain and Pat Shadden, Three Brothers: Billy Shadden and Dick Shadden of Moline, IL and Bob Shadden of Davenport, Iowa, Eight Grandchildren and Six Great Grandchildren and a host of Nieces and Nephews and other family members.

Proceeded in death by her Parents: Loyd and Marrie Morris Shadden, Two Sisters: Jean Shadden and Wanda Shadden and One Brother: Tom Shadden.

Services held Monday, December 22, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. from the Norwood Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Wofford Cemetery. Bro Lester Isabel officiating.

Pallbearers were Sons and Grandsons.

Visitation Sunday, December 21, 2008 from 6:00 To 8: 00 P.M. at the Funeral Home.
