Skinner, James H. "Jim" - Age 87 - Birmingham, AL

James H. "Jim" Skinner, age 87, of Birmingham, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2007.

As a native of Michigan, Jim served as a major in the Air Force during World War II and flew jets for TWA. He launched his automotive career some 52 years ago as a salesman for O.Z. Hall Ford in Birmingham. As one of the founders of Birmingham Automobile Dealers Association and owner of Jim Skinner Ford and Jim Skinner Honda in Dothan, he received numerous honors and awards from Ford Motor Company and has been recognized as the No. 1 volume new car dealer in the state. Widely known for his TV commercials, he was active in community organizations throughout Birmingham. He is survived by his children, Robert M. Skinner, Jane M. Walker, James H. Skinner, Jr., and William E. Skinner; grandchildren, Robert M. Skinner, Jr., J. Vaughn Skinner, Jeff B. Walker, Rebecca A. Esquivel, William E. Skinner, Jr., G. Eliot Skinner; great-grandchildren, Dalton R. Skinner, Logan A. Skinner, Jayna A. Esquivel, Jackson V. Skinner, and Margaret A. Skinner; and his dog Sue, his faithful and loving companion.

"Woodie" Robertson, she was a resident of Detroit, AL area most of her life and a member of the Detroit Methodist Church. She was a school teacher for twenty-two years, first a Pleasant Hill Elementary School in Vernon, AL, and later at the Detroit Elementary School in Detroit, AL.

Survived by 2 daughters, Sylvia (Billy Carl) Eastman of Sulligent, AL and Cynthia (Larry) Crosby of Detroit, AL; 4 grandchildren, Keith Crosby, Brian Crosby, Michelle (Colin) Owens, Michael (Lori) Eastman; and 8 Great-Grandchildren, Emily Crosby, Morgan Crosby, Chase Crosby, Reid Crosby, Carson Owens, Conner Owens, Wheeler Eastman and Anna Katherine Eastman.

She is survived by her children, Elouise (Franklin) McCarley, Marie Mann, Gary Don (Ann) Yielding, and Linda (Kenneth) Upton; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Jackie Bruce Turner was born on March 30, 1935 in Fayette County, Alabama to the late Bruce H. and Verler Palmer Turner. He was a resident of Marion County in the Winfield area most of his life. He was a graduate of Hubbertville High School and was retired from Continental Conveyor and Equipment Co. in Winfield where he worked for 35 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #304 in Winfield and was active in the Winfield and Hubbertville athletic programs. He was a member of White ’s Chapel Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Thomas and Maxine Rutledge; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Burcy and Sarah Johnson; and nephew, Lonnie Rutledge Box.

He was the son of the late Sterling and Elsie Pritchett. He was a member and deacon at Vestavia Primitive Baptist Church. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a charter member of the Forestdale Lions Club, where he was past president, and a Melvin Jones Fellow. He was owner of Pritchett Building Co. and several other business interests for 60 years. He was a member of the Greater Birmingham Home Builders Association. He was a Hall of Fame inductee into the Greater Birmingham Home Builders Association and the Home builders Association of Alabama. He initiated and helped found the Hackleburg High School Scholarship Fund, of which he served as chairman from its inception in 1989 until May 2007. He was a member of the Metropolitan Planning Organization. Mr. Prichett was a Master Journeyman Carpenter. He had a passion for music, especially bluegrass. He played the fiddle and mandolin in a band with his brothers at many family and community functions.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by th following brothers and sisters: Lucille Pritchett Baker, W.T., Thomas, and L.D. Pritchett and Connie Pritchett West.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, at 11 a.m. from the New Horizon Memorial Chapel with burial in the New Horizon Memorial Gardens. Elder Ernie Stump, Elder Guy Hunt, and Elder Sam Bryant were the officiating ministers.

Survivors include his wife of 61 1/2 years - Willow Dean Pritchett; children - Benny (Jane) Pritchett, Forestdale, Geoff (Melissa) Pritchett and Joy (John) Blevins, both of Adamsville, Jimmy (Cindy) Pritchett, Franklin, Tenn., and Johnny Pritchett, Madison; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson; brothers - Eugene (Jean) Pritchett, Forestdale, R.C. Pritchett, Cahaba heights, and Sterling (Frankie) Pritchett, Adamsville; sisters - Grace Pritchett Farr, Adamsville, Flara V. Webb, Gardendale, and Luna Pritchett Hudson, Jasper; and several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Wood Jr., Carl Richard - Age 83 - Bridgewater, VA. (Formerly of Phil Campbell, AL & Belgreen)

Carl Richard Wood, Jr., age 83, of Bridgewater, VA, died on Sunday, August 26, 2007 at the Bridgewater Home.

He was born in Phil Campbell, AL on July 22, 1924, and was a son of the late Carl Richard Wood, Sr. and Cora Ford Wood. Mr. Wood worked as an insurance executive at OneBeacon Insurance. He was an avid hunter who enjoyed being outdoors. Growing up in Franklin County, AL, Mr. Wood played basketball for Belgreen High School. He served in the U. S. Air Force during World War II from 1942-1945. He received his bachelor's degree from Auburn University where he was also a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. He was a member of the Bridgewater United Methodist Church. On March 23, 1947, he was united in marriage to Mary Dudley Wood of Bridgewater, VA who survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Jean Wood Colquett (Ted) of Birmingham; two sons, Alan Richard Wood (Missy) of Candler, NC, and William Clarke Wood (Jane) of Bridgewater, VA. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Mary Coston Colquett and Elizabeth McLendon Colquett of Birmingham; Douglas Clarke Wood and Stuart Hardin Wood of Bridgewater, VA; Allyson Wood Carreon (Jeff) of New Milford, NJ, and Brittany Wood Davenport (John) of St. Petersburg, FL; and three great grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for September 15, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Lantz Chapel of the Bridgewater Retirement Community. Miriam Bobo Brown, age 82, Berry, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, in the Lakeland Community Hospital in Haleyville.

Born on Sept. 4, 1924, in Walker County, she was the daughter of the late James Clarence and Maggie Lemon Vickery. She was a resident of Carbon Hill most of her life and a resident of Berry for the last 26 years. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Carbon Hill United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Baxter Bobo and Charlie Brown; son, Rick Baxter Bobo; daughter, Gypsy Anita Swanson; and granddaughter, Nahaliel Hon Cantelli.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, at 2 p.m. from the McGraw Memorial Chapel of Miles Funeral Home with burial in the Shiloh Cemetery in Kansas. Gary Heathcock was the officiating minister.

Survivors include her sons - Alan (Veda) Bobo, Demopolis, and Tony (Harriett) Bobo, Birmingham; grandchildren - Rusty Swanson, Mike and Matthew Bobo, Eric Montgomery, Amanda Walker, and Allyson Beverly; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great- grandchildren.

Mrs. Mobley, age 68, of Haleyville passed away Saturday, August 25, 2007 in Huntsville, Alabama.

She was a devoted wife for 49 years and well known as a teacher in Lynn, Alabama for 28 years, first as a second grade teacher, then moving to Lynn High School where she taught English for 27 years. Mrs. Mobley was also a long-time member of the Eastern Star.
